Whaling Days

Wednesday some friends from our ward put together a water balloon party at a local playground.  The girls had a blast.  The weather was great for it too.  Here are pics of each of the girls in their bathing suits.

Scarlett with her water balloon.  She wouldn't throw it at anybody.  Instead she ran around with it and threw it in the bushes.  At one point Chloe was cornered by a big kid with a water gun.  She was so freaked out.  It's really aggravating when big kids ruin little kids' fun.

Whaling Days was today in Silverdale, WA.  It's a big deal here.  Streets are closed during the week in preparation for this.  It goes all weekend and there are fun runs, parades, duck races, canoe races, all sorts of things.  We all registered for an event:  Trevor, 4 miler; me, 1 mile walk; Chloe, 50 yard dash; Scarlett, 25 yard dash.  Unfortunately, Trevor is now working 6 days/week and couldn't make it to his race:( I pushed the girls in the double jogger and walked the mile in 16 minutes.  Not bad I guess considering I'm 9 months pregnant and was pushing about 80 pounds.

Here are some preliminary pictures of the girls.

Scarlett wanted nothing to do with the banner or with her number.  She fought me so hard about getting her number on I thought she might not run in her race at all.  That's half a bagel in her hand.

Here they are after I finished my walk.  They were each given a medal.

Here we are:)  Side note:  Chloe's favorite article of clothing is this pink jacket.  She wears it everyday, all day if I will let her.  It doesn't get too warm here so it's usually not a problem.  This morning it was in the 60s.  She wears it at home, at the Y, wherever.  It's like her security blanket.

She ran in her race!  I had to run with her, but still, she did it!  Once she got going she had fun.  Her babysitter and his family were there and he waited at the finish line so she could see him and run to him.

My friend got these shots.  Chloe was booking it.  I had to start running, which was a little uncomfortable.  If you look closely she is getting quite a bit of air right here.

Great finishing shot of my girl.

Here are the girls with their friend Apollo, who also ran.  After running each child got a medal and a stuffed killer whale (hence Whaling Days).  A guy dressed as a killer whale was handing them out.  Chloe almost wouldn't even go up to get one.  She's not a fan of those huge costumes.

After the runs we went over to the pancake breakfast put on by the Rotary club.  Scarlett loves pancakes.  We had some sausage too.

Chloe posing.  She wouldn't put the fork down.

Then, we stayed and watched the parade for a while.  One of the floats was passing out otter pops.  The girls loved that.  It was hard to open them without scissors.  Scarlett had to grab her whale for the picture.

We had fun.  I wish Trevor would have been able to be there to see the girls run in their first race.  They were well behaved and it was nice to be able to spend time with the two of them.  I'm so proud of my girls!
